Baroncini Moe 25 sm 300x253Meet Susan and Leo who fell in love online in an unconventional way.

Rather than signing up for a traditional online dating site, Susan, who resided in Indianapolis, decided to join a site for people who were looking for International friends.

“I’ve always been fascinated by other cultures and other languages,” says Susan. She adds, “In graduate school, (and this is super-geeky) I had a number of email ‘pen pals’ in several different countries.”

Susan sought out a website, “Make Friends Online,” where she could meet people from other countries.

“At some point, I realized that I missed having those conversations and learning so much about other countries and having a wider worldview,” adds Susan. “I had lots of friends here, but I just missed that cool, cultural connection, so I sought out a web site where I could meet people from other countries.”

She met Leo, who lived in England, and the two developed their relationship with Skype dates.

After a few months of communicating, Leo moved to Uruguay to be with his family and to take care of his grandmother. While living in Uruguay, Leo decided to fly to Indianapolis to meet Susan in person. The couple connected instantly and one month later, Susan flew to Uruguay to meet Leo’s family.

Leo made his intentions absolutely clear, so there was never any doubt in her mind about his feelings for her.

Both of them credit the video chats on Skype with helping them fall in love. Six years later, the two are now happily married and are living together in the same country in Susan’s home town of Indianapolis.

Susan’s relationship advice for singles who are looking for love online is to be happy and whole by yourself, first and foremost. Neither Leo nor Susan were actually looking for love when they found each other.

Congratulations to Susan and Leo who found love by becoming a digital pen-pal first and didn’t let the International borders get in the way of finding “the one.”

Just to clarify a minor point, the story says, “Rather than signing up for a traditional online dating site, Susan, who resided in Indianapolis, decided to join a site for people who were looking for International friends.”

I wasn’t looking for a dating site?in fact, I wasn’t looking for a relationship at all. I was interested in getting to know people in other countries to learn more about other cultures. I just wanted to be clear that at that time, I was not interested in online dating or dating of any kind. Sometimes that’s when love finds you?when you’re just not looking for it at all.

    Thanks for sharing our story!
